ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY

For this semester long project, I was tasked with created an assisted living facility that could care for and meet the needs of the elderly. I used research to inform my design decisions in order to create an environment that promotes the best quality of life for the residents.

The above model is created using SketchUp and rendered in Podium.

This is the final presentation of Smith Mountain Lake Retirement & Graduated Care Community. It highlights key FF&E items, research findings, key attributes and sustainable attributes.

SKETCHUP ANNIMATION

This animation is a walkthrough video of the exterior of Smith Mountain Lake Retirement & Graduated Care Community, created using Sketchup.

Using Sketchup, I was able to build a model to reflect the exterior of the Assisted Living Facility. Printing this model using a 3D printer, allows the building to come to life by seeing the physical structure, rooflines, and entry points.

RENDERED APARTMENT & DINING ROOM

Using Photoshop, I created a model apartment for advertising to showcase what a potential apartment space could look like in the assisted living facility.

The memory care dining room has been rendered using Photoshop. This rendering serves to show potential residents the dining space and focus on both indoor and outdoor spaces.

CONCEPT SKETCHES

The concept sketches were created using colored pencil to highlight ideas of different spaces coming to life once dimension and color has been added.

REFINED FLOOR PLAN

This is the finalized floor plan for the Smith Mountain Lake Graduated Care Facility. The floor plan has been designed to be ADA accessible and created using AutoCad. This finalized floor plan has taken in all the considerations of the aging population to design a space that is enjoyable and comfortable to move into.

PRELIMINARY PLAN

This preliminary floor plan shows hand drawn progress work to inform my design decisions moving into the refined floor plan.

BLOCKING PLAN

This blocking plan shows progress work from the design decisions in my bubble diagram and starting to form them into a building space. The blocking plan has been completed using AutoCad.

FACS 300 ADJACENCY MATRIX FINAL.jpg

Using Procreate, I created a bubble diagram to start forming ideas laid out on my adjacency matrix. The bubble diagram worked to start getting a visual of the spaces interacting with each other.

The adjacency matrix showcases my thought process in the layout of different rooms. The adjacency matrix serves to inform the rest of the design layout moving forward.

PROJECT RESEARCH

Before beginning this assignment I did research on the plot of land, the demographics on the area and benefits of the surrounding areas. I also researched the design considerations of the aging and what is beneficial to include in an assisted living facility. This research is what informed all of the design decisions for this project.
